Little Hats, Big HeartsTM program raises awareness of dangers of stroke and congenital heart defects

RIVERHEAD, NY – Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number 5 killers of Americans. Congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect in the country. One in every one hundred babies are born with heart defects. Local program provides free wigs and other head coverings for cancer patients

MANORVILLE, NY – Every year, thousands of Suffolk County women face the fear and stress of cancer treatment. Hair loss can add an extra measure of burden and discomfort to their life-threatening experience. One study revealed that nearly 60 percent of women consider hair loss the most dreaded side effect they face when undergoing chemotherapy. To help address the problem, Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Grossman Imaging Center is partnering with the American Cancer Society to provide free head coverings along with emotional support for women facing hair loss from cancer treatment. RIVERHEAD, NY – Rusty Hilcken, RN, has named Administrative Director of Peconic Bay Medical Center’s new interventional cardiac catheterization services unit. Peconic Bay, the eastern hub of Northwell Health, New York State’s largest health care organization, has been approved for the development of two cardiac catheterization suites, which will bring much-needed life-saving services for heart attack victims to Long Island’s East End. Peconic Bay Medical Center Celebrates State Approval For New Cardiac Care Center.

RIVERHEAD, NY – Northwell Health’s Peconic Bay Medical Center received approval from New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, MD, to establish two laboratory cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology suites, and construct a rooftop helipad. The new “cath labs” will be the first facilities of their kind on the East End, and they have the potential to save hundreds of lives each year. They will form the centerpiece of a comprehensive Cardiac Care Center, which will be named the Kanas Regional Heart Center, housed in Peconic Bay Medical Center’s new $60-million Critical Care Tower. Peconic Bay Medical Center Granted Provisional Status as Level III Trauma Center

RIVERHEAD, NY – Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) will begin operating as a Level III Trauma Center after earning provisional status from the New York State Department of Health, making it the only trauma and stroke center on the North Fork. The provisional status recognizes PBMC’s dedication to working toward meeting nationally recognized standards in providing care to the most critically injured patients and in having a continuous process in place for monitoring and improving that care. Peconic Bay Medical Center completes first percutaneous procedure on an umbilical hernia in the United States

(RIVERHEAD, NY – August 22, 2016) Peconic Bay Medical Center’s, President of Medical Staff and Director of General Robotic Surgery, Dr. Agostino Cervone performed the first umbilical hernia repair using percutaneous laparoscopic instrumentation in the US. This procedure provides a less invasive approach to minimally invasive surgery with microscopic incisions and normal size instrument tool tips while maintaining his standard laparoscopic technique. Peconic Bay Medical Center announces $5 Million cornerstone gift to its Cardiac Care Program

(RIVERHEAD, NY – June 28, 2016) Peconic Bay Medical Center announced the John and Elaine Kanas Family Foundation’s $5,000,000 gift to its Cardiac Care Program at the hospital’s Golf Classic at Sebonack Golf Club on June 27. This gift is among the largest in the hospital’s history. This gift will help Peconic Bay Medical Center to establish the first comprehensive cardiac program on eastern Long Island – whose seasonal population doubles during warmer months. Currently, residents and visitors experiencing cardiac emergencies must travel a significant distance for care when needed. “Establishing a comprehensive cardiac program is a game changer for our region,” noted Mr. Kanas. “During a heart attack, time is life. If cardiac care can be performed here in a timely way, we will save lives and strengthen the communities we serve.”

PBMC Northwell Health Jamesport Triathlon Returns to the Area this July

Local Organizations Help Children by Donating $23,000 for Project Fit America

(RIVERHEAD, NY – May 9, 2016) During the month of April, a coalition of local organizations has donated a combined $23,000 to assist with establishing specialized fitness equipment and curricula at three East End elementary schools.
