Dr. Galler to also serve as Neurosurgical Spine head for Northwell’s Eastern Region

RIVERHEAD, NY - Robert M. Galler, DO, MPH, has been appointed director of neurosurgery at Peconic Bay Medical Center and neurosurgical spine for Northwell Health’s Eastern Region.

“We are delighted to have Dr. Galler on board to expand neurological surgery services throughout eastern Long Island,” said Raj K. Narayan, MD, Northwell Health’s senior vice president, neurosurgery service line and director of Northwell Health’s Neuroscience Institute. “Dr. Galler’s clinical expertise focuses on minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, cervical and lumbar degenerative spine disorders and neurotrauma.”

Dr. Galler previously served as director of spine surgery at Peconic Bay Medical Center from 2004-2015. He spent the past year as a consulting surgeon at Maine Spine Surgery in Portland, ME.

After graduating from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine with honors as a neuroscience fellow, Dr. Galler completed his residency in neurosurgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. He then did two fellowships in complex spinal neurosurgery and minimally invasive spinal neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, and the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN respectively. Most recently, Dr. Galler also received a master’s degree in health care policy and administration at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in Manhattan.

Dr. Galler has served as associate professor in neurosurgery and orthopedics and co-director of the Comprehensive Spine Center at Stony Brook University and was as an attending neurosurgeon at various hospitals on Long Island, including John T. Mather Hospital and St. Charles Hospital. 

Dr. Galler has received numerous awards and professional recognitions, including being named as Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Outstanding Surgeon Educator at Stony Brook University Hospital. He is a member of several prestigious organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, AO Spine International, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
