With four full-time board-certified surgeons and one of the Northeast’s most advanced surgical pavilions, the Peconic Bay Medical Group provides expert hernia repair treatment for the full range of hernia conditions.

Using advanced, minimally invasive surgical technologies, most hernia repairs can be performed on an outpatient basis, with no overnight hospital stay and minimal downtime or missed workdays.

Thanks to the broad capabilities and experience of our surgeons, even the most complicated hernia conditions can be repaired successfully.

Learn the signs of a hernia

  • Weakness, pressure, burning, or pain in the abdomen, groin, or scrotum
  • A bulge or lump in the abdomen, groin, or scrotum that disappears when you lie down
  • Pain when lifting, straining or coughing
  • The feeling that something has ruptured
  • Digestive distress and/or acid reflux

Many hernias go undiagnosed and untreated

Hernias are much more common than most people think. They pose problems for women and children as well as men.

They are often ignored as minor inconveniences. Or mistaken for other problems, such as gas, or irritable bowel syndrome.

But hernias do not go away on their own. Left untreated, they can cause serious complications.

Despite the claims of some Internet sites, hernias can only be repaired through surgery.

Hernias can be caused by:

  • Lifting heavy objects
  • Diarrhea
  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Constipation
  • Sneezing

Hernias do not go away on their own.

If left untreated, they can cause serious complications.

If you think you may have a hernia, call your doctor immediately.
