Cataract Surgery FAQs with Dr. Scott Sheren

Scott B. Sheren, MD

Board Certified Ophthalmology
Clinical Director of Northwell Health Eye Institute at Riverhe

Listed as one of the region’s Top Doctors by Newsday, New York Magazine, Castle Connolly, and the Top Doctors New York Metro Area digital guide, Dr. Scott Sheren was the first surgeon on Long Island to implant the Light Adjustable Lens. He has the most extensive experience with this technology in the region, including an outstanding record of carefully measured positive outcomes.

Why do you believe the Light Adjustable Lens is the best choice to implant during cataract surgery?

It’s the only product that lets us fine-tune the patients’ vision to give them the best possible “visual world” with the highest quality vision without glasses after surgery.

Why is post-surgery fine-tuning important?

With conventional technology lenses, even the newer multi-focal lenses, the outcome in terms of vision-quality is variable due to the process needed to determine the implant power as well as differences in the patient’s individual healing response.

The adjustability of this lens allows me to correct for this variability after the eye is finished healing, and it also allows patients to experience their new vision so we can further adjust the power of the lens to their liking. This fine-tuning process is all done with a simple office procedure using ultraviolet light and only takes a few minutes.

Why is Riverhead the best place to go for cataract surgery?

With any surgery, the keys to success and best outcomes are the experience of the surgeons and the quality of the technology and facilities. Here in Riverhead, our team’s experience with advanced cataract surgeries ranks with anything you can find in New York City or anywhere in the country. And our Kanas Center for Advanced Surgery is rated as one of the finest surgical facilities in the Northeast.
