RIVERHEAD, NY— Peconic Bay Medical Center recently held a surprise 65th wedding anniversary ceremony for Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center resident Patricia Connelly, 82, and her husband, Robert, 83. The two celebrated their wedding anniversary in style at Peconic Bay Medical Center’s courtyard garden, which was beautifully decorated by the hospital’s Skilled Nursing and Patient Experience teams. In addition to the celebration, Town of Riverhead Supervisor Yvette Aguiar and members of the Town Board delivered a proclamation for the bride and groom as they renewed their vows.

“The ceremony was absolutely beautiful,” said Amy E. Loeb, executive director of Peconic Bay Medical Center. “It put such a huge smile on my face seeing how happy the couple of 65 years were together. I am so proud of our Skilled Nursing and Patient Experience team for putting together such an amazing ceremony for one of our long-term patients.”

Mrs. Connelly has been a long-term resident at Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for four years. She met her husband Robert, a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and volunteer firefighter, in high school, and they have been sweethearts ever since. To help mark this momentous occasion, the Skilled Nursing and Patient Experience teams arranged hair and makeup for the bride, served a specially decorated cake that read “Happy Anniversary” and coordinated outdoor details including manicuring the hospital’s courtyard to hold the outdoor ceremony.

“The Town Board and I were honored to be a part of such a wonderful ceremony; it was a pleasure to witness Robert and Patricia's enduring love still going strong, after 65 years,” said Supervisor Aguiar. “The Connelly's are a reminder of how beautiful love is, and I wish them many more years of health and happiness, together. Thank you to the Peconic Bay Medical Center for making the arrangements so this moment would be possible.”

Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation center is the East End’s leading 5-star nursing center with 60-beds, providing patients and residents with 24-hour medical coverage and the assurance that emergency services are only a few steps away.

“I am so appreciative that my wife has all of the wonderful nurses here at the rehabilitation center that she trusts to help her if she's having a bad day and to tell her everything is okay,” said Robert Connelly. “To have somebody that I not only love, but trust to help me and be there for me when I need them truly means a lot, and that’s the kind of love my wife and I have. The secret to 65 years of a loving and trustful marriage is communication and never going to sleep mad at each other, and me and my wife never have. We’ve traveled all over the world, wherever Patricia wanted to go, I just followed. And now, we’re here, celebrating 65 years of an amazing marriage. Thank you, Peconic Bay Medical Center. This was truly amazing.”
