RIVERHEAD, NY — Northwell Health’s Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) announced today that it will be expanding its ambulatory operations into Shirley with the development of a new multi-specialty medical facility expected to fully operate in the spring of 2022. The new medical campus, located at 855 Montauk Highway, will include family medicine and immediate care, plus five medical specialties, which are currently sparsely available in the region: orthopedics, gastroenterology, cardiology, vascular surgery and urology.

“Northwell Health’s mission is to improve the health of the communities it serves and is committed to providing the highest quality clinical care, and this new facility is the epitome of that mission in action,” said Amy E. Loeb, executive director of Peconic Bay Medical Center. “The people of Shirley and the surrounding communities deserve to have access to high quality treatment and medical services they need, where they live, and we are excited for this beautiful healthcare facility to come to fruition. We thank all of our community partners and benefactors who made this possible.”

The expansion into Shirley will complement the hospital’s current ambulatory care facility in Center Moriches and is part of Peconic Bay Medical Center’s ongoing initiative throughout Suffolk County to aid underserved communities that have only remote access to specialty and primary medical care. The Center Moriches location currently offers family medicine and primary care and will soon be adding general surgery and colorectal surgery providers.

This new location will be the latest addition to Northwell’s network of over 22 different ambulatory locations within 16 hamlets throughout Eastern Suffolk County on both the North and South Forks. PBMC also operates in Central Suffolk County locations such as Manorville and Shoreham, and is driven to continue working toward providing for the unmet health care needs of those living along the William Floyd Corridor.

“This new facility will bring much-needed convenience to the Shirley community when it comes to primary and specialty medical care,” said Steve Bello, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Northwell Health's Eastern Region. “The Peconic Bay Medical Center has been part of the fabric of the Eastern Suffolk County community for decades, and we are proud of this project and the benefit we can help provide residents. Time and health are our most precious commodities, and our goal for this facility is to enhance both for those living in the surrounding areas.”

Over the past 20 years, the hospital has expanded to add the Kanas Center for Advanced Surgery, the Corey Critical Care Pavilion, The Feil Campus for Ambulatory Care, the Pegasus House Palliative Care Center, the Kanas Regional Heart Center, the North Fork’s only trauma and stroke centers, Long Island’s first hospital-based caregivers support center, and eastern Suffolk County’s premier orthopedic program. These advancements bring state-of-the-art resources and life-saving care closer to home for thousands of residents in Eastern Suffolk County.
