RIVERHEAD, NY–The Peconic Bay Medical Center announced today that Registered Nurse Christopher (Chris) Honor received the December DAISY Award after a patient nominated him and wrote a heartfelt letter. Chris accepted the award surrounded by his colleagues and the hospital’s executive leadership. PBMC is proudly partnered with the DAISY Foundation, an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day.

“It was such a privilege to present Chris with this wonderful award,” said Amy E. Loeb, executive director of Peconic Bay Medical Center. “Every time a patient recognizes the care and compassion shown to them by one of our nurses, it is always something to be celebrated. I couldn’t be more proud and impressed by not only Chris, but all of our nurses here at Peconic Bay Medical Center.”

Chris was recognized as the recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® at PBMC for December after a nomination was sent in by a woman who was recently a patient at the hospital. This patient explained how everyone at the hospital was kind, friendly and helpful but that Chris went above and beyond in his care. The patient even went as far to say Chris was gentle, concerned, caring, and compassionate and the sound of his voice was “calming and soothing.” The patient then stated “Don’t ever let him go. He is an angel.”

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. When he died, his family felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. Patients can share their experience of how a nurse made a difference by submitting a nomination.
