RIVERHEAD, NY — Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) announced today that its recent 2023 Gala, which was held at Westhampton Country Club, raised more than $1.58 million to support the hospital’s plans to expand the Poole Family Trauma and Emergency Center. The gala was attended by more than 300 people and recorded the highest funds raised by a single PBMC Foundation event.
“Peconic Bay Medical Center has made great strides to advance the level of medical care available in Eastern Suffolk, and that effort is thanks in large part to the support, commitment and passion of our community,” said PBMC Executive Director Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN. “We are grateful to all who attended and donated to make this year’s Gala such a success.”
This year’s Gala honored the contributions of Joan Levan, who has been the driving force behind the PBMC Gala’s success from its inception in 2006. Since that time, Joan helped raise more than $5 million to modernize and expand Peconic Bay Medical Center’s emergency department capabilities. Thanks to her efforts and the vision of successive hospital directors ranging from Andy Mitchell to now Amy Loeb, Peconic Bay Medical Center has evolved into one of the premier hospitals in the region and has been recognized by healthcare ratings agencies as offering the highest level of patient care available. This includes a Level III Trauma Center, awards of excellence from the American Heart Association and the implementation of new, life-saving technology such as a Cardiac CT and CVRx Barostim™.
The raised funds will go directly toward PBMC’s 6,600 square foot Emergency Department expansion. This expansion will increase the emergency department’s capacity by 75 percent and will bring more lifesaving capabilities to the East End. Construction on the new expansion is currently underway, with a goal to finish next summer.
"As PBMC looks toward the future, the overwhelming success of this year’s Annual Gala serves as a powerful reminder of our community’s dedication in championing improved healthcare services,” said Thomas and Mary Jane Poole, who co-chaired this year’s event and after whom the Emergency Department is named thanks to their generous $5 million contribution. “The collective impact of this community’s support will reverberate for generations to come, providing a foundation for the enhanced care that our emergency department will be able to offer."
