Jean M. Cacciabaudo, MD, appointed medical director as East End’s largest hospital becomes regional medical center

RIVERHEAD, NY – Peconic Bay Medical Center has named Jean M. Cacciabaudo, MD, as its new medical director. A fellowship-trained cardiologist, Dr. Cacciabaudo was formerly the chief of cardiology at Southside Hospital, and director of nuclear cardiology and associate medical director at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

03eb1038190c67a137cc087287c41da9_f14605.jpg“Jean Cacciabaudo is the ideal leader for our medical staff as we transition and grow into a Regional Medical Center,” said Andrew J. Mitchell, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC).

“She brings a combination of medical accomplishment and leadership capability that is truly inspiring,” said Agostino Cervone, MD, president of PBMC’s medical staff.

Dr. Cacciabaudo will join the hospital during the most transformative time in the 65-year history of PBMC, the largest hospital on Long Island’s East End, which joined forces in early 2016 with Northwell Health, New York State’s largest health care system.

The medical center will break ground this spring on a $60 million Corey Critical Care Pavilion that will include the East End’s most comprehensive trauma, intensive care and cardiac catheterization suite as well as a rooftop helipad certified by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Dr. Cacciabaudo is exceedingly qualified for the role of medical director," said Jay Enden, MD, medical director of Northwell Health’s Eastern Region. “We are delighted to have her on board to serve as an integral part of the Eastern Region.”

Dr. Cacciabaudo received her medical training at New York Medical College and served her internship and residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, where her training also included clinical fellowships in hypertension and cardiology. As an educator, she has served on the faculties of the Hofstra Northwell Health School of Medicine, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Cornell University Medical College.

“Dr. Cacciabaudo was the consummate candidate for the role of medical director,” said David Battinelli, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Northwell Health. “She is a strong leader and clinician who can help us further our overall strategic vision to deliver the highest quality patient care.”

Dr. Cacciabaudo succeeds Richard Kubiak, MD, the hospital’s medical director since 2007 who decided to return to faculty practice in the PBMC Medical Group, the East End’s largest multispecialty medical group. During Dr. Kubiak’s tenure, PBMC attained center of excellence accreditations for joint replacement surgery and bariatric surgery, received recognition for excellence in stroke care, and initiated its teaching programs in family medicine and surgery.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of bringing a new focus on advanced medical services to the East End,” said Dr. Cacciabaudo. “We are going to improve the quality of care with an expanding range of services for the East End with Peconic Bay Medical Center as the hub.”
