RIVERHEAD, NY – Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) held a ribbon cutting for its much-anticipated emergency department expansion, enhancing the hospital’s critical care capabilities and elevating the patient experience for more than 250,000 residents throughout Eastern Suffolk County. The Poole Family Trauma & Emergency Center is the first installment of a $92 million investment revealed in June of 2023 to further advance the level of healthcare in Eastern Suffolk County.
"The Poole Family Trauma & Emergency Center marks a pivotal investment for Eastern Suffolk County and reflects Peconic Bay Medical Center’s dedication to providing the highest standard of care to this community,” said Amy E. Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN, PBMC’s executive director. “This expansion will further enable us to meet our community’s evolving healthcare needs and ensure that every patient receives the expert, timely and compassionate care they deserve—when they need it most. We sincerely thank the Poole family for helping us to make this vision a reality.”
The Poole Family Trauma & Emergency Center is an exciting addition to Peconic Bay Medical Center’s suite of services, which has received Healthgrades Awards of Excellence for coronary intervention, gastrointestinal care, and pulmonary care. The expanded emergency department will add patient beds for a more effective intake process, increase space for more privacy and make room to implement innovative, live-saving technology including a dual bay trauma unit, and comprehensive radiology capabilities, and connectivity to Northwell’s e-ICU system and telemedicine. In addition, the expansion will enable PBMC to create two separate areas with their own dedicated team of healthcare professionals so patients with life-threatening conditions and those with less serious conditions can be treated simultaneously and efficiently.
The next project within PBMC’s strategic plan includes the modernization of the South Pavilion, which will establish a dedicated Center for Women and Infants. This facility will make comprehensive women’s health services more accessible to Eastern Suffolk County residents and will increase PBMC’s level of care for women at all stages of life.
“Northwell is steadfast in its commitment to increasing access to the highest level of medical services, and this investment is a testament to that mission,” said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. “Since joining Northwell Health in 2016, PBMC has transformed into a multi award-winning hospital complete with the Kanas Regional Heart Center, Corey Critical Care Pavilion, and Level III Trauma Center. The Poole Family Trauma & Emergency Center is the next major milestone in that evolution, and we’re excited for the future.”
