Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) is excited to announce that Dr. Michael Ciminiello, chair of the department of orthopedic surgery, has been named the number one best surgeon for hip and knee replacement in New York State, and among the best in the country, according to healthcare ranking and research service Dexur. Dr. Peter Sultan, an orthopaedic surgeon at PBMC, has also made the list of top hip and knee replacement surgeons in the state, being ranked within the top five physicians treating osteoarthritis in New York. These tremendous acknowledgments comes on the heels of Peconic Bay Medical Center being named a Center of Excellence in robotic surgery and several other surgeons, including Dr. Agostino Cervone, director of general robotic surgery, being named a surgeon of excellence.
“Dr. Ciminiello and Dr. Sultan are incredible leaders within our medical staff, and we are so proud of them for achieving this prestigious accomplishment, but it does not come as a surprise based on the high level of patient care we see from them and our entire orthopedic surgery team every day,” said Peconic Bay Medical Center Executive Director Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN. “Being ranked among the top orthopedic surgeons in the state shows the advanced, quality care our surgeons are providing to their patients and is a testament to the investment PBMC has made to implement new technology and systems to bring world-class medical care to the residents of Eastern Suffolk.”
Trusted and shared by over 500 hospitals, physicians and healthcare providers, Dexur annually ranks doctors according to treatment for a particular condition based on Medicare claims volume and comprehensive patient analysis. Research has revealed that case volumes and experience correlate directly to better quality outcomes.
Dr. Ciminiello specializes in adult hip and knee reconstruction, including primary total hip and knee replacement and complex total hip and knee revision. When treating arthritic and other degenerative conditions to the hip and knee, Dr. Ciminiello’s joint replacement practice provides effective treatment to relieve pain and restore freedom of mobility.
Dr. Sultan and PBMC’s expertly skilled orthopedic doctors and arthritis specialists offer comprehensive treatment options and rehabilitation services to address joint pain and arthritis. To address joint pain as a result of osteoarthritis, Dr. Sultan offers revolutionary orthopedic services that include breakthrough medications and exercise approaches, teamed with the region’s top physical therapists.
