RIVERHEAD, NY—Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) announced that it has been named as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Care™ as well as receiving two Excellence Awards for Pulmonary Care and Gastrointestinal Care as part of the 2025 Healthgrades Hospital Ratings & Awards report. These Excellence Awards acknowledge that PBMC is within the top 10 percent of all hospitals in the country for these specialty areas. PBMC was also rated as a Five-Star hospital for eight services, including treatment of heart attack, treatment of heart failure, COPD, pneumonia, treatment of GI bleed, bowel obstruction, pancreatitis and treatment of sepsis. PBMC was also among the Top 10% of Hospitals in the Nation for Cardiology services.
“These prestigious accolades for pulmonary and gastrointestinal care highlight Peconic Bay Medical Center’s unwavering commitment to delivering top-tier healthcare to our community,” said Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN, PBMC President. “Through significant investments, such as the opening of a dedicated Digestive Health Center, we are fulfilling our mission as a community hospital. This extraordinary community deserves extraordinary care, and we are proud to offer the highest level of medical services right here in their backyard.”
This is the second consecutive Healthgrades report that highlighted PBMC’s exceptional level of GI and Pulmonary care. These accolades are a testament to the hospital’s investment in advancing GI care in the region, which includes the recent opening of Peconic Bay Medical Center dedicated Digestive Health Center in Manorville. This unique facility is equipped to provide a full spectrum of gastrointestinal care. This includes cutting-edge screening, diagnostic, and treatment options, all delivered by a highly skilled team of experts. Digestive disorders focus on issues impacting the esophagus, liver, stomach, intestines, gallbladder and pancreas, which affect millions of Americans each year.
Healthgrades ratings are intended to help build trust among patients and communities by using a data-driven evaluation process to measure success for hospitals across the country to grow competitive advantages and continuously elevate the level of care. The ratings and awards are determined by analyzing millions of Medicare patient claims over three years. Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most—patient outcomes—Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. The 2025 Healthgrades Hospital Ratings & Awards also assessed patient mortality and complication rates at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.
Along with the nationwide honors in GI and pulmonary care, PBMC was also a Five-Star recipient for Treatment of Heart Failure for the second consecutive year (2024-2025) and Treatment of Heart Attack for the third consecutive year (2023-2025) in the cardiac category, and the Treatment of Sepsis for the second year in a row (2024-2025) in the Critical Care category.
