RIVERHEAD, NY—Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) recently announced that it has received three 2024 Excellence Awards for its work in Coronary Intervention, Pulmonary Care and Gastrointestinal Care from Healthgrades. In addition, six of its service lines have received Five-Star ratings. These lines were cardiac, orthopedics, neurosciences, pulmonary, gastrointestinal and critical care. Several of these accolades have been presented to PBMC for several consecutive years.

“Our mission is to save lives and to continuously elevate the level of advanced healthcare available throughout Eastern Suffolk County,” said Peconic Bay Medical Center Executive Director Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN. “These accolades are testaments to the investments we have made to our hospital and the work we’ve done to follow through on that mission.”

These accolades from Healthgrades highlight the remarkable strides PBMC has made in its journey to enhance the healthcare provided in Eastern Suffolk County. Along with the 2024 Excellence Award, PBMC also received Five-Star ratings for the treatment of heart attack for the second year in a row (2023-2024), the treatment of heart failure and coronary interventional procedures for the third year in a row (2022-2024), for which it was also named among the top 10 percent in the country.

Aside from the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, PBMC also received Five-Star rankings for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the treatment of pneumonia for the third year in a row (2022-2024). In the field of Gastroenterology, PBMC was among the top 10 percent in the country in overall Gastrointestinal Services and Gastrointestinal Medical Treatment. In addition, PBMC also received Five-Star ratings for the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Bleed and the Treatment of Bowl Obstruction.

PBMC also received Five-Star rankings for the treatment of stroke for the third year in a row (2022-2024), the treatment of sepsis and the treatment of respiratory failure. Also, for the fourth year in a row (2021-2024), PBMC received a Five-Star ranking for hip fracture treatment. Healthgrades ratings are determined by analyzing millions of Medicare patient claims over three years.

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most–patient outcomes–Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.
