RIVERHEAD, NY (APRIL 17, 2023) – Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC)  has received a Program Certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The certification is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process that measures the quality of individual facilities nationwide for standards and guidelines compliance. With this credential, PBMC is recognized among the best medical facilities in the nation for heart and lung health, adding to its recent designation as a Top 100 hospital nationwide for treatment of coronary intervention, and 5-Star treatment of pneumonia, both by Healthgrades.

“This prestigious certification is a testament to Peconic Bay Medical Center’s ongoing investments in advancing cardiovascular and pulmonary care in Suffolk County,” said PBMC Executive Director Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN. “PBMC provides exceptional and advanced medical care to Eastern Suffolk County. The AACVPR certification shows PBMC’s excellence in the cardiovascular and pulmonary field, and we are incredibly proud of our entire team for the work they do every day to care for patients.”

Fully integrated with the advanced life-saving services of Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Kanas Regional Heart Center, the comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program provides a confidence-building return path to improved strength, stamina, and quality of life after a cardiovascular event. The AACVPR certification is determined through Data Quality Checks and Data Quality Auditing. For cardiovascular care, the AACVPR evaluates patient outcomes at the end of cardiac rehab, measuring optimal blood pressure control, improvement in depression and functional capacity and tobacco use intervention.

The AACVPR certifies pulmonary rehabilitation programs based on how well they help patients improve shortness of breath, improve their ability to go about daily activities, and importantly, improve overall quality of life for people living with lung disease. Equipped with the most advanced exercise and telemetry technologies, The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team is accompanied by Eastern Suffolk’s largest staff of Advanced Cardiac Life Support-certified physical therapists and nurses. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Team offers the region-leading cardiology practice assembled with Board-Certified and Fellowship-Trained cardiologists. The PBMC team helps treat patients with various options, catering to individual patients seeking care, including lifestyle changes, medication, procedures, non-invasive attachments, and surgeries.
