RIVERHEAD, NY – Riverhead Rocks Triathlon presented by PBMC - Northwell Health will return to Riverhead for the 5th time this summer. While the athletes continue to register, The Town of Riverhead and Event Power are busy making preparations, as well as the volunteers and other organizers who have to get the course ready.

Law enforcement personnel have been busy planning their part of the operations, looking to minimize the impacts on motorists and the rest of the area’s regular operations while also trying to keep the athletes and spectators safe as they span across much of Riverhead Downtown area.

The event, now in its 5th year has become one of the area’s largest one-day events, part of a fast-growing movement toward outdoor recreation and wellness. The event is scheduled on August 14, 2016 in Riverhead. The triathlon will begin with a 1.5k mile swim in the Peconic Bay, followed by a 40k bike and ending with a 10K run. In addition to the triathlon, this is the first year Event Power is also offering a duathlon option for the Riverhead Rocks event which will consist of a 5k run, 40k bike and a 10k run eliminating the swim.

In previous years the Athletes ranged from 16 years old to 75. “We anticipate the event selling out quickly this year,” said the Race Director, Vicki Ventura.
