RIVERHEAD, NY– Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has received a donation of unwrapped gifts from The Partner Project to share with the hospital’s pediatric patients in the care of the Emergency Department (ED) to help brighten their spirits throughout the holiday season. The toys were dropped off Monday by representatives from The Partner Project. There was also a visit from Santa and his elves who came from a Kings Park organization called Angels without Faces.

“This donation is such a wonderful gesture of support, and we thank The Partner Project and Angels without Faces for helping us bring holiday joy to our patients,” said Amy E. Loeb, executive director of Peconic Bay Medical Center. “Our emergency department takes care of many pediatric patients on a daily basis, so a toy and an exciting visit from Santa could help ease the fright that may come along with a visit to the ED, and make it a more comforting experience.”

Throughout the year and even more so during the holidays, PBMC focuses on patient experience to help maintain a bright and positive atmosphere. Santa and his elves’ visit to the hospital helped achieve this goal as they greeted patients and gave out gifts. Some other holiday-themed activities the hospital participated in for the season included an Adopt-a-Family Basket Auction, a Holiday Hygiene Drive, and a food drive located in the hospital’s front lobby.

“All of us in the ED were so excited for Santa’s visit,” said Maryjo Stark, director of nursing for Emergency Services and Trauma at PBMC. “It truly made a difference in these patients’ experiences and that is what this time of year is all about.”

For the last six years, The Partner Project has been able to donate toys to hospitals during the holiday season, keeping with their mission to improve the quality of life of others. This year, PBMC received over 100+ toys to be given out to children in the ED as needed. The Partner Project, a 501(c)(3) charity organization, works to educate, train and conduct research in the areas of relationship abuse, healthy boundaries, communication, and pro-social bystander education.
